What is a Handicap?

Handicap betting is in common use in the most popular point-based sports like football, tennis, basketball, etc., and also in many racing events especially horse racing. For many people, handicap betting is a little bit difficult to understand, but in general, it is the way odds are presented by giving a virtual advantage or disadvantage to certain competitors. Types of Handicap

  • European Handicap It is a type of bet where a whole number of points or goals is added to the less favorite or subtracted from the favorite competitor. European Handicap (abbreviated as EH) is like 3-way bet and also can be found as also found as “Single Handicap” or “3-way Handicap”. When in a match the difference in strength between two teams is significant, after a handicap is applied becomes difficult for the favorite team to win the bet.
  • Asian Handicap –  It originates in Asia and mostly used in football. The main difference between European and Asian Handicap (abbreviated as AH) is that the EH is always an integer number, which means that it can be matched with a goal difference. unlike AH where a non-integer number is applied. The main target in AH is to get rid of the draw result (with a non-integer handicap you can actually win or lose the bet). Asian handicaps eliminate the chance of a draw in a match, so the possible outcomes are two.
